The weather is getting warmer and coffee drinks are going iced, so why not your coffee cocktails too?  Coffee cocktails?  You did not know there was such a think, did you?  Oh yes, I did say coffee in a cocktail!  This spiked Mexican Iced Latté is inspired by the traditional Mexican coffee recipe of Café De la Hoya, a hot coffee drink with coffee, cinnamon, and piloncillo (an unrefined whole cane sugar), but this cocktail has the added kick of 1921® tequila cream.  The spiked Mexican Iced Latté makes a great Cinco de Mayo or summer cocktail for those who like creamy cocktail drinks!  Enjoy with crushed ice or on the rocks.

Spiked Mexican Iced Latté

The key liqueur ingredient in this cocktail is 1921® Cream (La Crema de Mexico), the most ambrosial cream liqueur you will ever taste.  Sweet cream and coffee is blended with 1921® tequila blanco (white tequila) creating flavor notes of vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa, and caramel.  It is silky smooth and slightly dangerous – you cannot taste the tequila in it, just a flavorful cream that warms you to your toes. 1921® Cream is great warm, room temperature, or on the rocks.  1921® Cream comes in several bottle designs, including the special edition pink “Roso Mexicano” and blue “Azul Maya”.

  • 2 oz. 1921® Cream
  • 2 oz. Brewed espresso
  • 1 Tsp. Brown Sugar
  • 1 oz. Tuaca ( An Italian brandy with notes of vanilla and citrus)
  • 1 oz. Half & Half
  • Ground cinnamon

(Per glass)

Pour the espresso into a cup with the brown sugar, stir to melt the sugar, then set aside to cool for about 10 minutes. Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker, shake well.  Fill a 8-10 oz. cocktail glass with crushed ice, then pour the blended cocktail over the ice.  Sprinkle with cinnamon.  Hint: For a fall-inspired coffee cocktail, be sure to give my Kahlua Pumpkin Spice Caramel mudslide a try!
