I’m not going to lie…deliciously flavorful blue cheese dressing is not easy to make. To be clear, it IS effortless to mix together a blue cheese dressing recipe with a bunch of ingredients, but getting the right combination of flavors to make an incredible blue cheese dressing takes a little more refinement. Too much of one ingredient and not enough of another, and the dressing comes out too bland, too sour, or too mayonnaise-y. This homemade basil buttermilk blue cheese dressing is the perfect blue cheese dressing recipe. Not only is it easy to make, it is unbelievably delicious! Tangy and flavorful, you will want to drizzle this on your best salads, dip chicken wings or pizza into, or use as a snack dip with fresh veggies. It only takes about 15 minutes to whip together, but it is the tangy combination of flavors, plus the time sitting in the refrigerator, that make all the difference!
Basil Buttermilk Blue Cheese Dressing
- 2 Cloves Fresh Garlic, peeled
- 3-4 Fresh Basil Leaves
- 1 Tbsp. Fresh Chives
- 1/3 c. Mayonnaise
- 1/2 c. Sour Cream
- 1/2 c. Buttermilk
- 1 Tbsp. Balsamic Vinegar
- 1/2 tsp. Beau Monde Seasoning
- 2/3 c. Crumbled Danish Blue Cheese
- Pinch of Salt
- Ground Black Pepper to taste
Wash and pat dry the basil leaves. Place the garlic and basil leaves in a food processor with the Sabatier blade (S-shaped blade that chops). Pulse 3-4 times to chop the garlic and basil. Add in the chives, mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, balsamic vinegar, beau monde seasoning, and pulse 5-6 times to blend. Add the crumbled blue cheese, salt, and black pepper and pulse 1-2 times to blend. Scoop the dressing into a storage bowl or jar, seal with plastic wrap or a lid, and place in the refrigerator for 4-6 hours. Note: It is important to let this sit for at least four hours so all the flavors can mingle. Stir the dressing to blend before serving. This basil buttermilk blue cheese dressing is great served on a wedge salad, summer salads, or with fresh veggies!
Note: The more it sits, the better the flavors will be integrated. Please use within 7 days because of the fresh garlic, chives, basil, and blue cheese. It will last longer if you used dried spices, but fresh is best! Also, spring for the good blue cheese–it makes all the difference!
