Norway Cruise From Hurtigruten{ Today’s post is sponsored by Hurtigruten, but my love of travel and my opinions are 100% my own.}

Have you ever made a travel bucket list?  A bucket list is a great motivator to challenge yourself to experience new things you would not normally experience, push yourself past your comfort zone into an exhilaration zone, and fulfill that longing to wander and explore.  Have you ever been on a trip where you could you could check off several things from your bucket list?  Now is your chance to put a dent in your bucket list on a Norway Cruise From Hurtigruten!

IMG_3450ABC.jpgIt is rare that one could find so many once-in-a-lifetime opportunities on one adventure, but on a Hurtigruten small ships cruise to Norway, travelers have the opportunity to see several different unique experiences, such as these:

Christmas At The North Pole

StamsundNorway, the land of the Midnight Sun, has always been a bucket list item for many people.  Stunning scenery of breathtaking fjords, craggy coastlines, and snow-capped mountains draw thousands of visitors a year.  What could be better than to spend Jul (the Christmas season) with your family closer than you have ever been to the north pole?  Christmas aboard a Hurtigruten winter cruise encorporates the best of the Jul season, with a Christmas buffet, visit from Santa Claus, and fireworks and buffet for New Year’s.  Travelers have a chance to make holiday ornaments, sing Christmas carols, and decorate the Christmas tree with other passengers!

Northern Lights

_REB7773Have you ever seen the Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, in person?  The  ethereal tapestry of color across the night sky is awe-inspiring, and a Hurtigruten Northern Lights Norway cruise is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience it.  Created by charged particles from the sun bouncing into our atmosphere, the particles are heaviest near the Earth’s poles, especially near the North Pole, and NASA has predicted that this year will be the peak of an 11-year cycle of Aurora Borealis activity.  Tromso, Norway, part of the Hurtigruten cruise route, is smack-dab in the center of the magnetic North Pole, and with almost complete darkness, you’ll have a front row seat to this incredible phenomenon.

Saltstraumen

TrollfjordA winter cruise excursion, passengers can visit Saltstraumen to experience the worlds most powerful tidal current, and see the rugged landscape of the 400 million year old Caledonian Fold Belt mountain range.  Four times a day, 13 billion cubic feet of water is forced in and out of a passageway 1.9 miles long and 490 feet wide.  The force of the water creates whirlpools or vortices up to 33 feet wide and 16 feet deep.  It’s not everyday one gets to experience a maelstrom of water up close, but Hurtigruten passengers do just that from the safety of boats operated by experienced pilots.  While there, passengers will also see the awe-inspiring landscape from the Caledonian Fold Belt, a collection of mountains formed when continents collided together 450 million years ago.

Dog Sledding

Hund 20.jpgHop on an authentic Husky dog sled ride, traveling by oceans, mountains, and wide-open plateaus of snow, with headlamps to light the way through the Nordic  winter darkness.  Gaze upon star-filled skies and have another opportunity to see the Northern Lights while on this winter cruise excursion.  Kids will love the Wilderness Centre, where they can learn more about dog sledding and the Husky dogs that pull the sleds.   Passengers can also choose the Wilderness Adventure Camp, which combines dog sledding with a snowmobile safari and reindeer driving.  See Santa’s reindeer up close!

Visit North Cape, the 71st Parallel

Fff015.jpgThink about how amazing it would be to say you have been to the 71st parallel, the northernmost point on the European continent!  A Hurtigruten voyages North Cape excursion puts you right in the middle of of the amazing sub-arctic plateau, rising 307 metres above the Arctic Ocean.

Ultimate northern lights

I don’t know about you, but I could cross at least three things off my bucket list with a trip on an Hurtigruten winter cruise.  Think of what an incredible experience this would be not just for you, but for your entire family!  I want to go now, don’t you?   What would be your favorite thing to do on a Norway cruise  from Hurtigruten?

I have just returned from a Hurtigruten Voyage and the Northern Lights show was absolutely amazing. Plus, it was so fun for everyone to be bundled up out in the cold air and feeling like such a part of our incredible, natural world. Something you could never get on a beach vacation.
