Caramel Pretzel Brownies 2

Caramel, chocolate, and pretzels together in one delectable brownie?  Oh my!  These Caramel Pretzel Brownies are super easy to make and even easier to eat, the ultimate in sweet and salty.  If you are looking for a game day or Super Bowl dessert recipe, this is perfect!

Caramel Pretzel Brownies

  • 1 Box of Brownie Mix
  • 1/2 c. Butter, Melted
  • 1/4. c. Water
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. Mayonnaise*
  • 1/3 c. Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1/2 c. Miniature Pretzels (Twist style)
  • 1/2 jar Caramel Sauce (I use Mrs. Richardson’s)

Caramel Pretzel Brownies

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.  Make the brownie mix per directions, but use melted butter instead of vegetable oil.  Add one tablespoon mayonnaise and semi sweet chips and blend into the mix,  Butter an 8 x 8 baking pan, then add half the brownie mix, smoothing the mix so it lays flat in the pan.  Heat the caramel sauce in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds so it is easier to work with.  Pour a thin layer of caramel over the brownie mix in the pan, then add a layer of pretzels across the pan.  Add the remaining brownie mix and smooth.  Place the pan in the heated oven and bake about 30-35 minutes.

While the brownies are baking, take the remaining pretzels and place them in a plastic baggie, then crush the pretzels into small pieces.  When the brownies are done baking, remove from the oven and cool about 15 minutes.  Pour more caramel sauce over the top, then sprinkle with the pretzel pieces.  Place the brownies in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.

*A tablespoon or two of mayonnaise in boxed brownie mix will make brownies moist and fluffy, almost like homemade.  I also use melted butter instead of vegetable oil to make brownies taste more homemade too.
